Shihan Ken Peterson

Ken Peterson is an internationally certified Martial Artist. He holds a 5th degree Dan rank in Chubu ShorinRyu; a 5th degree Dan rank in GoJuRyu and a 3rd degree Dan rank in Chintokan ShorinRyu.

Mr. Peterson has studied Martial Arts since the 1960's and has trained in both Okinawan and Japanese GoJuRyu, HakkoRyu JuJitsu, Kempo Karate, and continues his study and training in Karate and Kobudo (ancient weapons).

Mr. Peterson feels that the direction of all Martial Arts organizations, groups, and associations must be to make the non-practicing public aware of the benefits of Martial Art training. He recognizes that by training the left side and the right side, with the same vigor, leads to a balance that most sports do not provide. Mr. Peterson has seen how the balance acheived in the body leads to a balance in the mind.

Through his combat experience, Mr. Peterson has learned that the core of Martial Art training, surprisingly, is peace. His programs in Karate, JuJitsu, weapons, and self-defense are all designed to teach an individual to push themselves beyond self-imposed limitations. All of the school's programs are based on a curriculum that has been approved by Shidokan International and the Japanese Ministry of Education.

The Martial Arts training at Yamabushikan is based on a "building block" approach.

The first techniques involve learning how to punch, kick and block. Once these basics are demonstrated with some proficiency, our program turns to teaching the basics of movement. Learning how to turn 90, 180 and 270 degrees, with balance and awareness, while coordinating eye, hand and foot movement. At this stage the student begins to learn how to generate power.

Once the student is able to demonstrate these basic movements,we begin to teach more complex forms as well as an understanding of these complex techniques.

Everything that is taught at Yamabushikan has a purpose of developing powerful students, who will be prepared to defend themselves, to lead others, and to recognize that their power provides an avenue for their own self-defense as well as peace.

You do not have to fight when you know that you will defeat your opponent.

All of our training is designed to meet the school's mission statement:

YAMABUSHIKAN'S MISSION STATEMENT
